PAUL JONES AND FRIENDS G LIVE 8 /1/2019

Paul Jones and Friends 8/1/2019

After last years event it was always going to be hard to pull another rabbit out of the bag. And that how it felt for the first half of this gig, first the house band came on and did two number ,one being the letter which lifted the pace and feel a bit, Paul Jones came back to do a number, got to be the blues , and now seems to take a much more back seat than in previous years. Kyla Brox was next on the bill and while a good voice and performing three numbers sensitive soul/bluesman's child/and bloodshot sky failed to lift the over all feeling of the gig. Eric Bibb  came on and again nice and pleasant performed five songs with out really get the crowd that excited. Talking to people before going in there was none of the rumour mill going round like there was last year of who was going to play, and I was left walking away from the first set a little deflated and apprehensive  who would be coming on in the second set.

The house band start proceedings and then the big money tickets come out, first we are treated to Rick Wakeman doing a beautiful three song set interspersed with his usually talk , life on mars  summertime and Eleanor Rigby.  Now that  just woke the crowd up but next was Van the man Morrison along with Eric Bibb who showed us how the blues should be played with a five song set that composed of midnight special/on a Monday/dimples/worried blue/and aint gonna moan which left the crowd wanting more. And more they got in the form of Bernie Marsden who played a three song set that had the crowd singing along to fool for your loving and here I go again.

The whole lot returned minus Rick Wakeman for a finale of helpme/green onions/ and everyday I have the blues, any thoughts  of it not being has good as last year  were well and truly blown away.
