BUT SING THE BLUES

BUT SING THE BLUES

BORN UNDER A BAD SIGN

BAD LUCK

WRITTEN ON MY BACK

LOSING SINCE I WAS BORN

WITH A START LIKE THAT

WHAT ELSE COULD I DO

BUT SING THE BLUES

BROUGHT UP IN A TIN SHACK

IT WAS HEAVEN

IF THE SUN SHINED THROUGH

WE DIDN'T HAVE NOTHING

THAT WE  OWNED

WHAT ELSE COULD I DO

BUT SING THE BLUES

DIDNT KNOW MY FATHER

HE WAS LONG GONE

BEFORE I TOOK MY FIRST BREATH

MY MAMA USED TO CRY AT NIGHT

ASKING THE LORD

TO SEND SOME GOOD LUCK OUR WAY

WHAT ELSE COULD I DO

BUT SING THE BLUES

AS I GROW UP

LIFE STILL GOT HARD

WORKING FROM DAY TODAY

EVERY WOMAN I KNEW

ONLY STAYED AROUND

TILL I GOT PAID

WHAT ELSE COULD I DO

BUT SING THE BLUES

THEN ONE NIGHT

I CAME HOME

AND GOT INTO A FIGHT

NOW I'M DOING 16 TILL LIFE

PEOPLE ASK ME WHAT I DO

I TELL THEM

I SING THE BLUES

I ASK YOU

WHAT ELSE

COULD I DO

BUT SING THE BLUES
