JOHN VERITY BAND
Deep in the heart of Sunbury Surrey, we find our self in the small
intimate setting of Sunbury Music Club, on a cold snowy night to witness one of
the best gig so far this year.
John Verity a name you may not be too familiar with, thou the poster
on the tables tell us he was the former front man of Argent. Joining
in 1974 after Russ Ballard left and after the hits we wonder what
sort of gig this will be, from the start we are woken up and drawn in to this
great guitarist and singer and have no doubt this is going to be good.
With a mixture of own materiel and classic blues we witness a full on
artist playing his heart out and loving every minute of it. With versions of
Help me, Blues is my business, I put a spell on you and Say why one of his own
filling up the first set.
If we thought the first set was good we were in for a treat in the
second. Of course at some point there had to be the hit, and sure enough a
glorious version of Hold Your Head Up comes ringing through the speakers, a
couple more of his own and then an amazing version of Purple Haze even Hendrix
would of been proud of, starting off with a version of stars and stripes before
lunging head long into the song. There followed a version of Bob Segar's
Old Time Rock n Roll and closing with Going Down, to send us
out in to the cold snow again with a warm glow inside knowing we had just seen
a great show. One I would be happy to see again very soon
