THE LONELINESS OF A VINYL RECORD

THE LONELINESS OF A VINYL RECORD

I WAS ONCE NEW
AND SHINNY

NOW IM HERE
ALL DUSTY AND GRIMEY

IT TOOK NINE MONTHS
TO MAKE ME
AND WHEN THEY FINISHED
THEY REALLY LOVED ME

THEY TOOK ME
ROUND TO FRIENDS
AND SHOWED ME OFF
LIKE A NEW BORN BABY

MY EARLY LIFE
WAS REALLY HAPPY
MY SLEEVE WAS STRONG
MY VOICE WAS LOUD
I SMELT SO NICE
EVERYBODY WANTED ME

I WENT FROM
SHOP,TO HOME,TO PARTY
PEOPLE COULDNT
GET ENOUGH OF ME

EVERY PARTY
I WOULD GET A SPIN
SOMETIME I ENDED UP
QUITE DIZZY

AS YEARS WENT ON
PARTIES SLOWED
I STARTED TO GET LEFT BEHIND

SOMETIME I WOULD
COME OUT AT CHRISTMAS

AND TRY TO RELIVE MY YOUTH
BUT I WAS NEVER TREATED THE SAME

AT FIRST I WAS LOVED
BUT NOW IM CAST ASIDE

LIKE THAT AUNTIE
WHOS ALWAYS THERE
BUT NO ONES KNOWS

LEFT ON THE FLOOR
TO PICK UP DUST
TILL SOMEONE
THROWS ME BACK IN MY SLEEVE

ONCE I WAS BEAUTIFUL
I DIDNT HAVE NO CRACKS
I USED TO SOUND SO YOUNG
BUT NOW I HUM, CLICK, AND HISS

AND NOW IT S TIME TO GO
MY OWNER GOT CD YOU KNOW

NOW IM SITTING HERE IN THE COLD
WAITING FOR SOMEONE
TO TAKE ME IN
AND LOVE ME ONCE AGAIN

ALL I CAN SAY
IS THANK GOD FOR
RECORD STORE DAY
